Assessing ICT Readiness in the Middle East

The UN is frequently publishing information about the ICT and development around the world. It always addresses the applications, readiness, and misuses. Unfortunately most MENA countries trail behind the rest of the world in ICT Readiness! But we can see significant progress in Gulf countries such as UAE, Qatar, KSA, and Bahrain. Although the Internet penetration in the Middle East is outpacing the rest of the world, but Internet users represent only 3.3% of the world users!

Officials in the Middle East are always saying that we are progressing well in the ICT and its applications. But when looking at latest United Nations Reports and Publications, you will find that we are not. According to the latest UN E-Government readiness survey, Egypt for example is ranked number 86 in the world and 3 in Africa. However it was ranked 79 in 2008. So we are moving backwards!!!
